Sun Valley is located in central Idaho’s Wood River Valley and is widely recognized as America’s first destination ski resort. With 2,457 acres of skiable terrain, 124 trails, and 17 lifts, the resort spans two distinct mountains: Bald Mountain and Dollar Mountain. The vertical drop reaches 3,400 ft from a summit elevation of 9,150 ft, and the area receives an average of 172 inches of snowfall annually, supported by one of the most advanced snow-making systems in the country.
Beginners are well served with beginner terrain on Dollar Mountain, seven terrain parks, and the Sun Valley Ski & Ride School offering group and private lessons. The resort features 76 park rails, surface lifts for learners, and a layout that allows easy access between lodging, lifts, and amenities. With 36% beginner terrain, 42% intermediate, 20% advanced, and 2% expert, Sun Valley is ideal for skiers of all levels seeking a refined yet approachable mountain experience.
Seattle Ridge is one of the stand out spots on Bald Mountain long flowing groomers with killer panoramic views, way less crowded and perfect for beginners. Accessed by the Seattle Ridge high-speed Doppelmayr six-pack detachable chair installed in 2024. The quick ride is four and a half minutes up to the top. Killer view the whole way Runs are smooth and wide with no flats it is one of the newest developed area for beginners looking to ski the big Baldy. It features 6 large groomed to perfection runs. Easy to get back to the River Run base by taking the Broadway chair up to the Roundhouse Express Gondola then chose to ski or download to River Run base.
Visitors choose Sun Valley for its blend of historic charm, consistent snow conditions, and uncrowded slopes. Whether cruising the 3.6-mile Seattle Ridge run or enjoying après-ski at the Roundhouse, the resort delivers a timeless alpine experience with modern infrastructure and scenic beauty.
Free Mountain Rides buses connect the airport to Ketchum and Sun Valley, with multiple daily departures. Visitors flying into Boise (BOI) can take a scenic 2.5-hour drive or book a shuttle service for direct access to the resort. Once in town, the Mountain Rides system offers free and frequent service between Bald Mountain, Dollar Mountain, Ketchum Town Square, and Sun Valley Resort. All buses are equipped with ski and bike racks, and electric buses operate across all routes. Taxis and Uber are available, though advance booking is recommended.
